Hi there! This is my second post for the day...make sure to scroll down for my 2nd High Hopes welcomes Dustin Pike Sneak Peek card...
First, let's get to the Weekly Wednesday Candy winner...
Congratulations!! You won Beach Girl Patti from High Hopes Rubber stamps!! Please email me at LaceySoLiving@bellsouth.net with your mailing address.
Remember there will be a new Weekly Wednesday Candy tomorrow!!
I have so much to do to get ready for the High Hopes Release on Wednesday (like editing pictures and loading them onto the store). But before I go, I wanted to quickly talk about Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday holiday today...
This holiday is sort of bitter sweet for the US. It is a day to celebrate a wonderful man who stood up for what was right. I truly believe the world is changed because of this man!!
But it's also a sad day since it is a reminder of how horrible we can be as a human race!! To think that race, gender, or religious beliefs would make someone less or more important than anyone else!
We are all God's Children! We were all born into this world for a purpose!
In honor of this Holiday, Ansley's school participated in a volunatary art and literary contest held by the City. Ansley and her girlfriend Patrice got together after school to work on an art project.
We couldn't find Patrice at the art show and ceremony, so I couldn't get a picture of them together. But here is Ansley with their project...
Not bad for 7 year olds, huh?! Patrice drew the outline of MLK and Ansley helped to color it in.
I think they did a fantastic job! Although they didn't win, I was so proud to see them work together on one goal and to see their art displayed at the Performing Arts Center.
See, Ansley really didn't understand what the "big deal" about this Holiday was. She can't really understand what it stands for!! And THAT is a big deal!! She has a hard time understanding that some people were treated differently because of the color of their skin!
Anyway, Ansley's art project didn't win any award, but the group Literary project that was a joint effort from her class and one of the Kindergarten classes won "Best in Show"!!
Here is Ansley in front of her drawing for the group entry (her's is the one with the girl in the purple dress and another girl in an orange dress playing on the playground)...
Here is a portion of the group entry...
I am so proud of my little girl! I am so proud to that we live in our country TODAY and NOT 40 years ago!! Although there are still many things that still need to be changed...we have come a long way!
Wow, they did an amazing job! :)

I agree with you. Because of this man, a lot of people have rights and the world changed. But we can get better. It's great that your daughter and her friend helped out. Their art was amazing. I couldn't draw that.
xoxo :)

Tell Ansley I said that I am so proud of her. Her art project was amazing! I think the message of MLK is a very good one. I make it part of the rest of the week discussion in my class. Do you still have the cutting project she did from Kinder? You are amazing Ansley!

Ansley did a great job on her art work. We may not be perfect but I'm still proud to be an American and especially glad that children now have the chance to see that all children can be friends!Congrats to the winner.

How wonderful that someone is taking Martin Luther King Day seriously and not just using it as an extra day off to shop or go to the movies. We all need to pause and reflect on this great man's contributions. Ansley and her friend did a wonderful job, as did the other participants. They, at least, got it right. Please thank all of them for me.
