My husband's birthday is May 17th so I wanted to make him a masculine card. Papertrey Ink just came out with some new stamp sets so I knew I had to have "Father Knows Best". This set is great for both Father's Day or a masculine birthday. The set comes with 3 types of tree tops, 2 tree bases, a "compass", and 11 different sayings. Some of my favorite sayingss in the set are: "You didn't tell me how to live: you lived, and let me watch you do it", "Any man can be a father, it takes someone special to be a dad", and "You're someone to look up to no matter how tall I've grown" (which is great for a card from an older son or a grown man to his father).
I also love that it includes a sentiment for a step father or father-in-law: "It's not flesh and blood, but the heart, that makes us father and sons". It also has a sentiment that could be great for a friend: "You gave me the greatest gift that anyone could give another person; you believed in me"!! Aren't those wonderful?
For this card, I chose the tree with the funky circles (I just love the look). I stamped it in Mellow Moss onto Whisper White CS. I used the solid tree trunk stamped in Creamy Caramel and the outline tree trunk stamped in Chocolate Chip. I cut and embossed the image with a classic rectangle Nestability. I cut out the mat in Chocolate Chip with the larger Nestability die. The set also comes with coordinating circles (one large and one small) that can be used as background images. I saw a similar card during the Papertrey preview that popped some of the circles on the tree up on dimensionals (here). I really loved that idea so I used 3 larger circles that I punched using my 1/2" circle punch. I don't have the 1/4" circle and I can't cut small objects very well, so I decided to just use the large circles. It a little hard to see, but here is a closer view of the circled popped up on the tree top (I should have used the larger dimensionals after looking at Nicole's design again)...
For the mat on the card base, I stamped "weathered" backgrounder with Chocolate Chip ink onto Creamy Caramel CS. I inked up the edges with Choc Chip then distressed it with my sissors. I ran a River Rock Double Stiched Ribbon through the image panel and wrapped it around the card mat. I didn't want to use any bows or knots since it is for a guy. I stamped the sentiment in Chocolate Chip onto Whisper White and cut it out and embossed it with a smaller Nestability rectangle die and matted it onto a piece of Mellow Moss which I distressed. I added two silver brads to fill the empty corner then attached everything onto the card base.
I can't wait to play around with it more for father's day. In the mean time, I hope Scott likes his birthday card (I finally made one without waiting for the last minute)!!
